How to Incorporate Film Photography into Your Wedding Day
Film photography refers to the use of traditional analog cameras that capture images on film rather than digitally.
Each image is carefully composed, exposed, and developedcreate stunning, tangible images with a soft, romantic aesthetic. I often take a more creative approach with these photos as well. Aiming for them to have a completey different feel than digital in both how the photo looks and the composition of the photos. Here’s an example of a similar scene on digital, and then on film.

The tones in film wedding photography feel organic and rich, often evoking a sense of nostalgia. Think of your parents wedding photos or beautiful vintage images you see on pinterest. Often these are film photos. They bring you back in time. I will often have clients send me insptation photos for their sessions not even realizing that they are film photos rather than digital. Depending on your vibe and your vision for the day, I can usaually tell you if film is something I think you will apprecaite. To be completely honest, I think there are few people who graviate toward my style of photography, who would not highly value the addition of film photos.
Film has a depth and character that feels timeless, which is perfect for documenting one of the most important days of your life.
Film photography is slower and more deliberate than digital photography. It requires patience, precision, and an artistic eye, making it particularly appealing to couples who want wedding photos that reflect both technical skill and creative intention.
If you value authenticity and a fine art approach, film photography is worth considering.
Incorporating film wedding photography into your wedding package offers a variety of unique benefits.
Film has an unmatched quality that feels classic and stylish. The natural tones and soft textures bring an artistic beauty to your wedding photos that is unmatched in the digital world.. While trends in photography styles may change over the years, film’s timeless look is something people never get tired of.
Film photography captures emotion in a way that’s hard to replicate digitally. They feel often more like artwork. The deliberate process of shooting on film encourages documentary-style wedding photography, allowing your genuine moments of connection to shine through.
As a documentary-style wedding photographer, my focus is on capturing real, unscripted moments that reflect the emotion of your wedding day. Film naturally complements this approach, as it thrives in capturing intentional , authentic moments with artistic detail.
Unlike digital photography, where it’s easy to take thousands of images, film wedding photography requires a slower, more intentional process. This careful approach encourages mindfulness and allows me to focus on truly meaningful shots.
With every film package, I deliver the photos to you digitally and hard copy. I use a printing company that preserves the colors and tones of film photos. What is the point in film if you don’t get a hard copy of the photos?! You will recieve them in the mail in an adorable gold, keepsake box. There’s something so special about holding a photograph in your hands. A heirloom that you can pass down for generations.
If you have the room in your budget for film photography, I would genuinely say I don’t think there’s a person who wouldn’t love and benefit from adding on film photos. Below are some film photos that may spark emotion. Please also reach out if you would like to see full galleries of film photos from wedding days! When you’re looking through the photos you’ll likely know if they resonate with you or not 🙂

Film photography takes a bit more time than digital, so I will be adding in small margins to your timeline when we plan to ensure we have the time to get creative with your film shots!
The turn around time is also longer since I have to send the film for developing, touch up the photos, and then get prints of the photos and mail them to you. Typically you’ll get your gold box of photos 4-5 weeks after you recieve your digital online gallery. I will send you some teasers so you can see how beautifully your film is turning out!
So, film wedding photography – should you add it to your wedding package? Every moment deserves to be captured in a way that feels as special as the day itself. Film wedding photography offers a timeless, artistic quality that complements the documentary style perfectly. It will definitely give your weding gallery a more fine art vibe.
It’s an opportunity to create stunning, heirloom-quality images that reflect the true beauty of your love and wedding day.
